Responsible Conduct of Research

The Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR) is defined as the practice of scientific investigation with integrity by applying ethical norms and principles in the performance of research.  The University of Nebraska-Lincoln is committed to the ethical conduct of research and a culture of compliance through providing education and resources for our faculty, staff, and students involved in research and scholarly activities.

  • Research Compliance Services (RCS) provides many resources under their Responsible Conduct of Research page, including videos, trainings, and FAQs.
  • The Office of Research and Innovation (R&I) has compiled links to the different on-campus review committees: Research Responsibility

You may think of the principal investigator on a study as being ultimately responsible for the research they are conducting, but within research institutions like UNL, research responsibility actually includes collaboration and cooperation between researchers, administrators, and applicable oversight offices. Executive Memos 16, 41, and 42 spell out specific responsibilities related to research, research computing, and research data.
